What does it take to become a Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in New Jersey?

• To become a Physical Therapist Assistant you will need to obtain an Associate's degree, as a matriculated student at a community college. It generally takes about 2 years to earn an Associate's degree. To work in New Jersey a PTA must be licensed by the state; then work under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• To become a Physical Therapist you need to obtain a Master's degree in physical therapy or a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree before taking the licensure exam that allows you to practice as a PT.
