SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT

 

Dr. Mike Reinhardt,
PT, DPT, OCS

Dr. Mike Reinhardt is a performance physical therapist who thrives in helping others achieve their performance and health related pursuits. He is the founder of Built 2 Last Performance PT in East Hanover, NJ and the Built 2 Last Performance Mentorship Program. Mike has a passion for integrating strength and conditioning principles into human performance and rehabilitation to help others realize their true potential. 

Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Mike earned his B.S. in Exercise Science and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University at Buffalo. He is a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association. He is also certified in Dry Needling in the state of New Jersey. 

Mike has competed in Olympic style weightlifting for over a decade and remains involved in weightlifting and strength sport communities.

At this point in his career, Mike has been involved in the rehab processes of  hundreds of athletes recovering from ACL-R. He has also taken part in the founding and creation of continuing education courses focused on sports rehabilitation and return to sport. Mike has worked with a wide variety of athletes ranging from youth athletics up through professional sports, but he has a particular interest in addressing the unique demands of long-term and post-operative athlete rehabilitation.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Sports Special Interest Group of the American Physical Therapy Association of New Jersey is committed to educating  its members, encouraging the exchange of ideas and fostering an arena of support for the practice  of sports physical therapy in this state. 

 

OBJECTIVES

  1. Allow for networking and informal discussion among our members.
  2. Provide relevant clinical information and education to members.
  3. Discuss issues important to the local or state-wide practice of sports physical therapy an encourage support for action needed on these issues.

    VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

    Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games

    June 7-8, 2025 at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ

    Option 1: 

    Clinical and non-clinical volunteers are needed in eight different health disciplines as part of the Healthy Athletes venue at the Student Center! 


    Physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students are needed to help screen athletes in the areas of strength, endurance, balance and flexibility. Many of you have assisted in previous years and we are hopeful that you are willing to assist us again this year to ensure a successful program.

    Option 2:

    Medical Volunteers provide onsite coverage of Special Olympics New Jersey competitions at each sport by providing simple first aid. Medical Volunteers can be physicians, athletic trainers, nurses, emergency medical technicians and/or paramedics. If you are interested in participating as a Medical Volunteer, please email  VOLUNTEER@sonj.org .

    TOPICS OF INTEREST

    • Developing a cohesive network of sports rehab providers that we can cross-refer for our athletes (i.e. concussion rehab, IASTM, ART, Counterstrain, PRP, taping, etc.)
    • Establishing a clear career path for sports PTs in NJ (SCS, residency, USOC, prep courses).
    • Develop/host courses to fill gaps in knowledge – Emergency Response for the Athlete (ERA), taping for PTs, functional return to sport, exercise physiology, etc.
    • Public exposure/awareness & marketing.
    • Membership involvement, generate opportunities, coordinate sports PT courses, etc.
    • Student opportunities & education– Rutgers, Seton Hall, Kean, Stockton.
    • Sports PT residencies, internships.
    • NJ Sports PT legislation (i.e. dry-needling, field care coverage, licensure compact for out-of-state coverage, concussion testing, etc.)
    • Clarify liability coverage for sports PTs doing field care.
