Horizon Blue and APTANJ Work Together on Physical Therapy Rate Increase

Last week, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey notified their standard contract providers of increasing physical therapy reimbursement rates starting July 1, 2024.

Starting July 1, 2024:

• Horizon is increasing the maximum allowed rate. The new per member, per day maximum will increase by 15%.

• Horizon will also reimburse for initial physical therapy evaluations separately from your maximum allowed amount. This applies to CPT codes 97161, 97162 and 97163.

APTANJ president, Megan Gardner stated, “We are pleased that Horizon has announced this rate increase and thank them for working collaboratively with APTANJ. We look forward to working with them on an ongoing basis.” 

Over the past year, APTANJ has been working and communicating with Horizon to make these updates to the standard contract.
