The following statement was originally issued by APTANJ and its Council of Directors in June 2020.  At a time when Asian Americans are being targeted with hate and violence, we felt it was important to rerelease our message that we stand in solidarity against all racism and social injustice.

Racism and racial injustices have been an ongoing contributor to health disparities and recent events have sparked motivation to tackle these inequalities.

APTANJ stands in solidarity against racism and social injustice.

APTANJ’s commitment to increasing diversity and inclusion was reflected by the reinstatement of the Cultural Diversity Committee in 2017. Below are ways APTANJ will continue to be advocates and allies for change to support our members and patients:

Educate healthcare professionals on cultural competence.

Share resources on being allies and social issues that impact health disparities.

Support events that promote health education and career awareness to diverse communities.

Encourage minority members to take on leadership roles within the organization.

Advocate for policies that impact health disparities and social justice.

Below are ways members can support APTANJ’s initiatives:

Participate actively in APTANJ meetings and membership forums.

Join APTANJ’s Cultural Diversity Committee.

Vote in local, state and national elections.

Support organizations that promote social justice.

Share with local legislative leadership how social justice impacts the health and well-being of our members and patients.

Contribute to the PT-PLAN, APTANJ’s political action committee.
