The National Association of Black Physical Therapists has recently established a chapter in New Jersey. We are looking for new and enthusiastic members to join our efforts focused on addressing the lack of diversity in both PT educational programs and the PT profession as a whole. Our goal is to review current strategies and propose novel approaches to increasing and supporting underrepresented minorities (URM) in physical therapy such as admissions practices, recruitment and retention of URM PT students and faculty, supporting URM PT students while in the program, increasing exposure of the profession in underrepresented communities, and efforts to increase representation in governance. Please join us for our virtual meet and greet on September 12th at 7 pm and follow us @nabpt_nj. We hope to see you there! -Shalay Foster, PT, DPT, CCI NABPT NJ Chairwoman
Hi Shalay, I've met you only quickly in the past 2 years (GAP Event last year?). You are spoken of here in a very lofty light. I would like to have our students at Rutgers informed of and exposed to the NABPT and some of its members. I am not sure how often or where you meet but I would like to discuss with you how we might sponsor an info session with you, or perhaps be a host site for a meeting or an event. We are enjoying a growing diversity in our student community and I would like to make sure NABPT is an organization of which our students are aware. Please contact me at: mm3451@shp.rutgers.edu. Thanks Much! Michael Majsak, PT, EdD, Rutgers DPT Program Director. Mike
