Acupressure: Integrative Healthcare for Stress & Pain Relief Part 1 & Part 2 Holistic interventions for improving Pain, Fatigue, Anxiety and Stress (6 CEs) According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), a branch of NIH, pain is the most common reason for seeking medical care(Pain: Considering Complementary Approaches published by National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, 2019).There is a rising clinical interest in Integrative medicine for non-pharmacologic treatment options as our healthcare system faces a crisis of pills and opioid use( Monson, 2019). Acupressure is an Eastern treatment modality that is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is based on Meridian theory and energy channels which are connected to the function of the visceral organs. There is emerging scientific evidence of Acupressure points transmitting energy through interstitial connective tissue with potentially powerful integrative applications through multiple systems.
As the evidence supporting mindfulness-based interventions continues to grow, the hands-on practice of Acupressure can be incorporated into rehabilitation practices and interventions giving our patients the tools and self-care regimens to lead healthier pain free lives. This hands-on workshop will introduce rehabilitation clinicians to the evidence-based practice of using specific potent Acupressure points for improving pain, anxiety, heart rate variability, nausea and chronic fatigue for optimal balancing of physiologic and psychologic functions. Clinicians will be able to apply these techniques in any practice setting effectively. About the Speaker Rachna Mehta PT, DPT, CIMT, OCS, PRPC, RYT 200
