Sport Specific Outpatient Physical Therapy for the Golfer (1CE)

This presentation will elaborate on what physical therapy for the golfer encompasses.  Attendees will attain an understanding of where physical therapy for the golfer falls in the continuum of medical care and golf performance.   Identifying appropriate patients who will benefit from physical therapy for the golfer will be discussed.  Common golf musculoskeletal golf injuries will be presented.  Additionally, the golf specific movement screen from the Titleist Performance Institute, as well as the Functional Movement Screen and Selective Functional Movement Assessment, will be introduced.  The K Vest swing assessment process will be presented.  Attendees will then be guided through how all assessment findings correlate into the physical therapy plan of care, treatment plan, and patient goal.  Finally, return to play considerations will be reviewed.

OBJECTIVES:

 

•      Attain a basic knowledge of the golf swing

•      Develop an understanding of the movements and muscles involved in the golf swing

•      Introduce common golf musculoskeletal injuries

•      Attain a basic knowledge of golf clubs

•       Introduce the members of the golf performance team

•      Understand patient who will benefit from golf specific physical therapy

•      Attain basic knowledge of the Titleist Performance Institute Level 1 screen

•      Attain basic knowledge of the Functional Movement Screen

•      Attain basic knowledge of the Selective Functional Movement Assessment

•      Introduce the K Vest system

•      Introduce general return to play concepts

•      Understand how all the components come together with a patient example

Barbara Kutch, PT, DPT, CSCS

 

Barb has been a physical therapist since graduating from Stockton University in 2010 with her Doctor of Physical Therapy.  Since 2015 she has worked her way through the Titleist Performance Institute Medical track, attaining the highest level of Medical 3 in 2017.  At Penn Medicine Princeton Health, she has developed a physical therapy program specific to golfers.  Barb presented the program’s development at the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Mid-Atlantic Conference in 2017.  In addition to golfers, she works with athletes and patients of all ages with orthopedic conditions.  Barb has also been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach since 2011.  Outside of work, Barb is a baseball and softball coach.
